The World Health Organization is an international organization that sets regulations and guidelines, designed to benefit the health of people and the environment. The WHO set the international guideline for drinking water quality. Amongst other things, the guidelines create a procedure for assessing the risk of various pollutants contaminating water. The World Health Organization acts as a global leader in identifying water related issues and developing plans to correct them.
