Water continues to be commonly used in modern artistic projects, often in grand fashion. Dubai is famous for extravagant and unconventional displays of art. The Dubai Fountain is the worlds largest fountain. The fountain spans 30 acres of water and shoots water over 500 feet in the air. Off the coast of Dubai, artificial islands are being constructed to create patterns in the water. The islands will create a great deal of space for waterfront development, and will add over 520 kilometers of coastline to the city.
The fountains of the Bellagio resort in Las Vegas are notable for their music synchronized shows. The fountain, spanning 8 acres, has been synchronized with several musical performances, including Viva Las Vegas by Elvis Presley and God Bless The USA by Lee Greenwood. The Museum of Modern Art in New York City famously had a "Rain Room" exhibit in 2013. The room simulated a rainstorm. But, attendees could walk through the room without getting wet. This is because the room used 3D sensors to detect the positions of the attendees, and was able to control the position of the rainfall. The September 11th memorial in New York City features the largest manmade waterfalls in the United States and two 4,000 square meter pools. The waterfalls are designed to mute the sounds of the city, providing a calming and serene atmosphere. |
